Perth
Amidst the riot of colour which is Perthshire, lies the fair City of Perth. It was once the capital of Scotland, and just a few miles away at Scone Palace, the ancient kings of Alba were crowned on the Stone of Destiny. Archaeological digs have also discovered evidence of Roman occupation. Perth is the focal point of the region, a thriving market town and a major crossroads in Scotland, with roads radiating in all directions.
Perth - the ‘Fair City’ - the ‘Perfect Centre’ - on the banks of the River Tay. Important more for its geographical position than any particular historic or other notable features. Big on agriculture –a bustling market city. Hosts a superb theatre and conference centre.
Attractions in the city include Perth Theatre, Perth Museum & Art Gallery, Scone Palace and Black Watch Regimental Museum of the city centre, to the Caithness Glass Visitors centre on the outskirts. Home to the Dewars Centre where you can enjoy curling, ice hockey or ice skating. Has a lovely small racecourse, in the grounds of famous Scone Palace. Superb scenery, castles, history, walks and attractions in the superlative country around it - Perthshire - ‘all of Scotland’, making Perth an excellent destination base.
